We that is (my wife, my 8 year old son and I)
joined the LINCOLN church today 09/07/09 offering "free soup and fellowship"
today to anybody who wanted to drop in during the cold winter months.

We found  Chris Purdie and Steve Quarles of St Stephen's

Anglican Church where we will
find them in the church hall every Thursday from now on for July and August at
least..

Peoples Warden Steve Quarks told me that It's a labour of love and an outreach to the
community after his involvement with Meals on Wheels last year.

While He was talking to us we noticed volunteers serving the soup, LOVERLY
home made soup, others were just sitting and chatting.

It was great to come together
with such frendly people for a purpose - to have some soup.

I understand
not only is there a "huge support" from church members offering to make the soup,
but also from the rural farmers in the parish who had offered to donate vegetables
along with the local community garden.

One parishioner had donated a set of soup bowls, although the church had yet to acquire the extra spoons needed.

Two types of soup would be on offer each week, plus bread supplied by the Lincoln Four Square Supermarket, and tea and coffee.

The kitchen is open for anybody to drop in every Thursday from 11am-

1pm through July and August.
